Hourly to Salary Calculator
Convert between hourly, weekly, monthly and annual pay.
About this tool
Converts gross pay between hourly, weekly, monthly and annual amounts using the hours you work each week and the number of paid weeks in the year. It does not deduct tax.
Job adverts, contracts and payslips quote pay in different ways: per hour, per week, per month or per year. To compare offers fairly you need them in the same terms. Enter what you know, how many hours you work a week and how many weeks you are paid for, and the calculator converts it to every other period, so you can see an hourly rate as a salary or a salary as an hourly rate.
How to use the Hourly to Salary Calculator
- Choose whether you know your hourly rate, weekly pay, monthly salary or annual salary.
- Enter the amount.
- Enter your usual hours a week and the number of paid weeks a year (52 if holidays are paid).
- Read the pay for every period.
25 an hour for 40 hours a week
At 25 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks, the annual salary is 25 × 40 × 52 = 52 000. That is 4 333.33 a month, 1 000 a week and 200 a day over a 5-day week. Going the other way, a salary of 60 000 a year for 37.5 hours a week works out to 60 000 ÷ (37.5 × 52) = 30.77 an hour.
Weeks, months and paid holidays
There are 52 weeks in a year, plus a day (two in a leap year), and on average 4.33 weeks in a month, so a month is not 4 weeks. Multiply weekly pay by 52 and divide by 12 to get monthly pay. If your holidays are paid, use 52 weeks; if you are only paid for the weeks you work, such as many contractors and casual workers, use the weeks you actually work, for example 46 or 48. Hourly rates that look high can be lower than a salary once unpaid leave, sick days and benefits such as pension contributions and medical aid are taken into account. All figures here are gross pay, before income tax and other deductions.
Frequently asked questions
How many hours a year is full time?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, it is 2 080 hours. At 37.5 hours a week it is 1 950 hours.
How do I convert a monthly salary to an hourly rate?
Multiply the monthly salary by 12, then divide by your hours a week times 52.
Is this my take-home pay?
No. These are gross amounts. Your take-home pay is lower after income tax and other deductions.
Should contractors use 52 weeks?
Usually not. Use the weeks you expect to bill, allowing for holidays, sick days and gaps between contracts.
