QR Code Generator
Create a QR code for a website link, Wi-Fi details or any text, then download it as a PNG or SVG. The code is made in your browser and never expires.
About this tool
A standard QR code (byte mode, versions 1 to 40) drawn in your browser by Toolzeroo’s own encoder. It is a static code: the link or text is stored in the pattern itself, so it keeps working forever and nothing tracks the people who scan it. Test the code with your phone camera before printing it.
Create a free QR code for a website link, a message, contact details or Wi-Fi text, and download it as a PNG image or a sharp SVG for printing. The code is made in your browser by Toolzeroo’s own encoder. It is a static code, so the content is stored in the pattern itself: it never expires, needs no account and doesn’t track the people who scan it.
How to use the QR Code Generator
- Type or paste a link or some text.
- Choose an error-correction level: M suits most uses, H is best if the code may get scratched or have a logo over part of it.
- Check the preview and scan it with your phone camera.
- Download a PNG for screens and documents, or an SVG for printing at any size.
A QR code for a website
The link https://toolzeroo.com/ is 22 characters. At level M it fits in a version 2 code of 25 × 25 squares; at level H it needs version 3 (29 × 29). Longer links need bigger codes: at level M a version 1 code holds up to 14 bytes of text and the largest code (version 40) holds up to 2,331 bytes.
How much text fits
Maximum bytes of text for each error-correction level, worked out with this encoder. Letters and digits are one byte each; accented letters and emoji take two to four.
| Version (squares) | L (7%) | M (15%) | Q (25%) | H (30%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (21 × 21) | 17 | 14 | 11 | 7 |
| 5 (37 × 37) | 106 | 84 | 60 | 44 |
| 10 (57 × 57) | 271 | 213 | 151 | 119 |
| 25 (117 × 117) | 1,273 | 997 | 715 | 535 |
| 40 (177 × 177) | 2,953 | 2,331 | 1,663 | 1,273 |
How QR codes store data
A QR code stores bytes in a grid of black and white squares, with three large squares in the corners that let a camera find and straighten it. Part of the code is error correction: extra data that lets a scanner rebuild the message even if part of the code is damaged. Level L can recover about 7% of the codewords, M about 15%, Q about 25% and H about 30%. More correction or more text makes the code larger, with up to 177 × 177 squares. Leave a white border (the quiet zone) of at least four squares around the code when you print it.
Common mistakes
- Printing the code too small. Keep it at least about 2 cm wide for close scanning, and larger for posters seen from a distance.
- Cropping the white border. Scanners need the quiet zone around the code.
- Not testing before printing. Scan the final file with at least one phone first.
Frequently asked questions
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The link or text is stored in the code itself, so it works for as long as the link does. There is no redirect or account involved.
Can I track scans?
No. Static codes go straight to your link. To count visits, use a link with tracking parameters from your own analytics tool.
PNG or SVG?
PNG works everywhere on screens and in documents. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any print size.
Why won’t my long text fit?
Each code has a maximum size. Shorten the text, use a shorter link, or choose a lower error-correction level such as L.
