About this tool

Removes comments, scripts, styles and every HTML tag, turns paragraphs, line breaks and list items into new lines, and decodes entities such as & and  . The text is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Copying text out of a web page, an email template or a CMS often brings HTML with it: tags, inline styles and codes like  . This tool strips all of that and leaves clean, readable text. Paragraphs, headings and line breaks become new lines and list items become bullets, or you can join everything into one line. Scripts and styles are removed completely rather than left as text.

How to use the HTML Tag Remover

  1. Paste your HTML into the box.
  2. Choose whether to keep paragraphs and lists on separate lines or join everything into one line.
  3. Read the plain text and its character and word count.
  4. Copy the result.

Cleaning an opening-hours snippet

The sample HTML has a heading, a paragraph with bold text and two non-breaking spaces, and a two-item list with an en dash entity. Stripped, it becomes four lines: Opening hours; We are open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.; • Saturday: 9 am – 1 pm; • Sunday: closed. The   codes become ordinary spaces and – becomes a real dash.

What gets removed and what is kept

Everything between angle brackets is treated as a tag and removed, along with HTML comments. The contents of script, style, noscript and template elements are dropped entirely, because that text is code, not content. Block elements such as p, div, h1 to h6, li and tr end with a line break, and br becomes a new line, so the text keeps its basic shape. Named entities like &, <, " and ’ and numeric ones like ’ are turned back into characters. Extra spaces and blank lines are tidied up. Links lose their address and keep only their text, so copy any URLs you need first.

Frequently asked questions

Does it keep links?

Only the link text. The href address is part of the tag and is removed.

Is it safe to paste untrusted HTML?

Yes. The HTML is treated as text and never run, so scripts in it cannot do anything.

Can it convert HTML to Markdown?

No, it produces plain text. Headings and bold text lose their formatting.

Why are some symbols still showing codes?

Only common named entities are decoded. Rare ones are left as they are; numeric codes are always decoded.
